Development of the Broadband Atlas for the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology in cooperation with the TÜV Rheinland.
The Broadband Atlas is an information platform of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology for the coverage of broadband internet access in Germany. The platform was built by the TÜV Rheinland in cooperation with Omniscale.
The basemap of the Broadband Atlas is based on OpenStreetMap data. Omniscale processed the OpenStreetMap data with the help of Imposm, designed a map style fitting in the cooperate design of the Federal Ministry and integrated the maps as a tile service into the web application.
Besides the OpenStreetMap data, Omniscale also helped to make the broadband coverage information available as WMS. Omniscale used MapProxy to publish the data as fast as possible. With the help of MapProxy, the system was able to serve thousands of users with more than 6.000.000 tiles and 500.000 WMS requests in the first 24 hours.
